It’s officially football season y’all!
I’ve always been a big football fan. In fact, it even played a part in how I chose where I went to college. True story.
I knew I wanted to cheer in college for a big school that was good at football. I grew up in Columbus, Ohio so Ohio State was clearly on the list. The University of Texas was also on the list because my parents were going to be moving to Texas and they were dominating in football. It was the fall of 2005, my senior year in high school, and Ohio State and Texas played each other at Ohio State. I was down on campus that night watching the game with my friends (rooting for OSU at the time) and Texas won. Then Texas went on to win the National Championship that year. I tried out for cheerleading at both schools, and I found out that I made both teams on my 18th birthday when I was at dinner with my parents. I was so torn. It was the hardest decision of my life, but I decided to leave home and go to the University of Texas where I didn’t know a single person (other than the people I met at cheerleading tryouts). Although it was the hardest decision, it was also the best decision I ever made. Now, I BLEED burnt orange. I cheered for four incredible years when the Longhorns dominated athletics. I got to cheer at several NCAA tournament games, Texas/OU games, and the Fiesta Bowl. My very last football game to cheer was the 2010 National Championship game at the Rose Bowl, when Texas played Alabama. Unfortunately that game didn’t end like I had hoped (our quarterback got hurt in the first quarter and you better believe that Texas would have won had that not happened), but I can’t complain. I have the most amazing memories from my time cheering at Texas.
I LOVE going back to Austin to watch games, but one thing I always struggle with is what to wear on gameday! I was lucky as a cheerleader: I wore the same fringe uniform every Saturday and didn’t have to put any thought into it. It’s a bit of a different story now (although my alumni game is tomorrow so I get to dust off my fringe and cheer for a quarter!). Burnt orange can be especially hard to find, but I’m all about it, which is why I’m teaming up with some other orange-loving football fans to bring y’all some awesome gameday outfits.
First on my list is this adorable off-the-shoulder, bell-sleeve romper. Obviously I don’t believe in the “no white after Labor Day” rule. This romper is legit, but it needed some burnt orange flare. Luckily I found the cuuuutest orange sandals that are comfortable enough for that 10 hour long day on your feet. Add some Tory Burch sunglasses, Kendra Scott Earrings, Bourbon & Boweties bracelets, a Rebecca Minkoff cross body bag, and I was ready to head to DKR Texas Memorial Stadium. Make sure to scroll down and check out all the other girls’ orange outfits! Can’t wait to show y’all the other two burnt orange football game outfits that I put together for y’all. Hook ’em Horns!! I love all the hints of orange you incorporated into your accessories! I don’t follow college ball, but I grew up in New England and am a huge NFL/Patriots fan, and I love dressing up in my red white and blue on game day!
